We work with a range of Housing Providers across Greater Manchester and the wider North West area to support their tenants.


What is Housing Provider Counselling?

We work in partnership with a range of Housing Providers, placing counsellors within communities or virtually, to work with their tenants who may need additional support.

These services have been successfully running for a number of years and are developing with growing partnerships across the region. We work flexibly to bring a range of therapeutic support to tenants, intervening early to prevent issues escalating and enabling people to make long term changes.

Additional support to tenants is becoming increasingly relevant and requirements are different for each provider and community we work within. We aim to be innovative, flexible and collaborative when partnering with housing providers – assessing their tenants specific needs and developing services accordingly.

We aim to deliver our services in ways that fit with the people we are serving, not the other way around. In the past this has meant providing telephone counselling to a person with agoraphobia, and delivering sessions in community venues such as a spare room above a cafe.

We're currently running these services in partnership with:

  • Stockport Homes (Stockport)
  • Mosscare St Vincent's (Moss Side)
  • Forviva (Salford)
  • Equity Region (Part of Great Places Housing Group) Greater Manchester
  • Jigsaw Homes Group (as part of the Housing First project)
  • Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association

What sort of issues can counselling help with?

Often, tenants are facing a range of complex issues and difficulties which require integrated support services. By providing counselling within local communities, we create a confidential and non-judgemental environment where tenants are able to talk about what they're going through. Counselling can often be very helpful in addressing some of the following:

  • Coming to terms with a relationship breakdown or losing someone important
  • Personal issues they are facing within any of their relationships
  • Reducing isolation by enabling people to build confidence, understand why they have become isolated and take appropriate action
  • Worries about job loss, unemployment, redundancy or stress in work
  • Supporting them in their relationship with themselves, helping them to feel happier with who they are.
  • Improving their relationships by working out better ways to communicate
  • Dealing with changes in people’s lives, like having children or living with a long-term illness

The two aspects of our approach that set us apart are the focus we have on relationships, and our commitment to reaching proactively into communities to ensure that those who need our service most, feel comfortable and confident in accessing it.
