Separated Parents Course

Separation can be difficult for adults – how does it impact children?

Separation can be difficult for adults – how does it impact children?

We offer a short course designed to help parents understand how separation feels for a child. It supports parents to explore their situation in the context of their children’s needs and emotions   through the separation and beyond.

While recognising that many separating parents may be in dispute with one another, the course explains the importance of communication and how feelings and reactions to the separation can impact this and the children involved.

This course will be helpful to you if:

  • You want what is best for your children during your separation
  • You find it difficult to focus on your children’s needs because of ongoing conflict
  • You want communication with your ex-partner and children to improve

It will enable you to:

  • Help your children adjust to changing dynamics
  • Manage conflict with your ex-partner and avoid putting your child in the middle
  • Reflect on how you are dealing with the changes
  • Think about whether you need any extra support

Things you need to know:

  • Parents going through separation can be instructed by the courts to go on this course, but you can also book on yourself
  • The course takes place over one day, in 4 hours and you must attend the full 4 hours
  • Separated parents attend separate sessions, never the same one
  • Children and new partners don’t attend

Working with other parents in similar situations really helped me feel less alone. The course was really useful.
