Change your behaviour

Supporting and challenging you to change as part of #IsThisOK?

Are you worried about your behaviour?

If you are using coercive and controlling behaviour, we can support and challenge you to change.

It is a common misconception that domestic abuse always includes physical violence. Coercive and controlling behaviour is a dangerous form of abuse that has serious consequences.

As part of Greater Manchester’s #IsThisOK? campaign, we’re encouraging men to reach out for support if they recognise they’re causing harm in relationships. Find out more about coercive and controlling behaviour below, and if you recognise signs in yourself, fill out a form to enquire about our behaviour change programmes.

Also called ‘psychological abuse’. Name-calling and putting someone down, controlling what they do or wear, isolating them from friends and family. Gaslighting (making someone doubt their memory) and love bombing (overwhelming someone with intense affection) are forms of emotional abuse used to control someone.

Controlling what someone spends or controlling their access to financial resources. Coercing someone to stop working, forcing them to hand over wages, and limiting their access to cash (if they do not earn money themselves) all count as financial abuse.

Harassing, threatening, humiliating, controlling or monitoring someone using technology. Monitoring someone’s social media or location, accessing their social media or personal accounts without permission, and sending threatening texts or emails all count as digital abuse.
