Behaviour Change Programmes – Is It A Postcode Lottery?

We proudly featured on ITV’s Granada reports with the effectiveness of our interventions.

In April 2025 two of our ex-service users and our Head of Domestic Abuse featured on ITV’s Granada reports.

ITV Granada Reports spoke to Michael* and Martin* who turned to our domestic abuse services, when they knew their behaviour was harmful.

Michael attacked his wife two years ago after an argument about money. He referred himself to our perpetrator programme because he knew ‘something needed to change’.

Social services took Martin’s children away from him due to his behaviour. He did some research and found our charity.

They each turned to our Bridging to Change programme, which, lasting 40 weeks, works on individual’s understanding of why they use violence or aggression in their relationships and builds on the men’s emotional skills in order to bring about change.

Home Office research matched our Bridging to Change data against Greater Manchester’s Police’s, and found:
Domestic Abuse incidents reduced by 80% for those who had completed the programme

Since 2017, 3092 men have been referred to our Behaviour Change programme

But unfortunately there are very few Behaviour Change programme’s available in the UK, despite their proven effectiveness.

Funding is like a postcode lottery. Each local authority should have their own funding and that is just not the case.
