What to Expect in Mediation

An amicable approach to sorting your finances and child arrangements.

An amicable approach to sorting your finances and child arrangements.

Family mediation can help you and your former partner (or other family members) come to agreements without lengthy and expensive court proceedings. It allows you to discuss important matters in a secure environment with an impartial mediator.

Whether you’re recently separated or have been separated for a while, you can come to us. It’s never too early or too late to come to arrangements that are best for your family.

Process

Call for information

We can answer any questions you have about family mediation.

Mediation Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM)

A one-to-one meeting for you with a mediator. An opportunity to discuss your situation and decide on the next steps for you and your family.

Attend a joint session(s)

Most attend 2-4 sessions. Many take time between sessions to consider options, trial arrangements, and obtain legal advice.

Confirm arrangements

The mediator will summarise any proposals that you have put forward and intend to fullfil.

We also offer Child Inclusive Mediation. This gives children the opportunity to meet with a mediator and talk about their wishes. Research shows that children greatly benefit from having a voice during the separation process. A Child Consultation will only go ahead following a discussion and signed permission from parents.

Funded Payments
Legal Aid and other forms of government funding are available for family mediation. See our Fees and Funding sheet for more information or give us a call.

Delivery
You can attend family mediation via online video call or in person at various offices across the Northwest and North Wales.
