Before your session

Taking the first step towards getting support can be tough.

It’s normal to feel nervous ahead of your first session, and we’re here to help.

The basics:

  • Other than for your consultation appointment, you will see the same person each week
  • Sessions will be booked at the same time, once per week
  • Your sessions will last 50 minutes

What can I do to prepare?

You can read more about our charity and our approach, which will provide insight into how we do things.

Please make sure you also familiarise yourself with the costs of our services, and how payments work.

If you’re having remote sessions, do you have private space for your session, where you feel safe and comfortable and won’t be overheard or distracted?

If you live with others…Can you use headphones in a less busy room in the house, or ask those you live with to go out while you have your session?

Wear what you feel comfortable in.

Also consider where you would feel comfortable and safe to talk about what you want to bring to your sessions.

Fancy coffee, builders brew, herbal tea, water… whatever your taste… have it with you.

It can be comforting to hold a hot drink, keep nervous hands busy, ensure you don’t get a dry mouth, and encourages you to relax into your environment.

If your session is remote, make sure you have a good connection to the internet as this will give you better video and sound.

We recommend closing down other tabs and applications that are open as this can help Zoom run faster. If this may cause issues, maybe opt for phone counselling instead of Zoom sessions.
