Bridging the Gap

A coaching programmes for families living with neurodivergence.

Bridging the Gap is a coaching service for families looking for support with the day-to-day challenges of living with neurodivergence.

We provide information and practical support to children aged 7-13 and their parents.

Some of the issues we support with include managing sensory regulation, navigating social and communication challenges, helping with transitions, and implementing structure and routine.

The programme is particularly designed for families in which a child has autism. Our coaches have been trained by the National Autistic Society and have used the SPELL framework and Daniel Hughes’ PACE model to develop strategies, coping mechanisms, and practical resources for parents to learn and take away.

Bridging the Gap helps improve children’s understanding of themselves, and supports them to better regulate emotions and manage responses to difficult situations. It also aims to improve parents’ understanding of their child for a healthier, happier relationship and a calmer home.

You must live in Cambridgeshire to take part in the programme.

Sessions are delivered face-to-face from a counselling centre in Cambridge. We also offer sessions online to people in the wider Cambridgeshire area.

We offer up to nine sessions for you, your child, and your partner (if applicable) to attend together.

Sessions are 50 minutes to an hour delivered weekly, although we can be flexible depending on your family’s needs.

If your child is non-verbal or uses alternative and augmentative communication, exhibits extreme violent behaviour, or presents with issues such as a complex eating disorder, we unfortunately cannot work with them as part of this programme. Our coaches are trained to support with day-to-day challenges but do not have the clinical training required for specialist interventions.

If we assess that your child is unsuitable for the programme, we are happy to signpost you to the right place so you get the support you need.

Our practitioners are coaches, not counsellors. They are trained by the National Autistic Society to support families with day-to-day challenges. If you’re looking for counselling rather than coaching support, visit our children and young people’s counselling page.
