If you’re having difficulties in your sex life or just want to be able to communicate more openly about sex with your partner, Sex Therapy can help.

What is Sex Therapy?

Most of us will have an issue in our sex life at one point. Dealing with problems without any help can be frustrating and upsetting.

Sex Therapy is a discreet and non-judgemental service that can help you to work through any issues you might be facing so you can begin to enjoy sex again. You can attend as an individual or as a couple. The service is inclusive of all genders and sexualities of both individuals and couples and is 100% confidential.

Although some people can find Sex Therapy a bit awkward at first, this is completely normal and you will be supported to be as comfortable as possible. We anwser everything you may need to know about Sex Therapy in our FAQs section, which you can read here.

How does it work?

After requesting to book an appointment, you will speak to a member of our First Voice Team via email or telephone, who will offer you an initial appointment to suit your schedule.

Initial Consultation: This is your first appointment, which lasts 1 hour, in which your therapist will ask you to discuss any issues you’d like to address, before talking about the best way forward. If you’re in a relationship, it’s useful if you come with your partner, as many sexual issues stem from issues present in the relationship itself. If your therapist thinks Sex Therapy would be appropriate, you will be offered appointments to see your therapist regularly, beginning with a full history take.

History Take: This takes place over 3 separate sessions of 1 hour each. This allows you to explore your experience and provides a better understanding for yourself and your therapist of what is happening and what the reasons may be. If you attend as a couple, each of you will have individual history takes before attending your regular appointments together.

Ongoing Appointments: These can be attended individually, or as a couple and last 1 hour each. Your therapist may arrange this to be weekly or less regularly, depending on your issues. They will provide regular support and guidance to resolve the issues discussed throughout the initial consultation and history take. At the end of the sessions, your therapist will provide you with some exercises to try out in the privacy of your own home.
